Much work was completed over the Christmas vacation, yet we are far from being finished. Our appreciation is extended to those who gave of their time over the break to paint and do many other tasks. We will be in need of much volunteer assistance to complete many of the tasks we have chosen to do with volunteers.

We had a great turn out on Saturday with 30+ volunteers for whom we are sincerely thankful. With their assistance, we were able to run about two-thirds of the data wire. The installation of the fire alarm system is still ongoing. Most of the wiring in the existing building is now complete and work has moved into the new addition. We experienced a set back this past Friday when the electric hookup was not completed. Hopefully and prayerfully, it will be completed today. When the electricity is able to be turned on, we will then be able to turn on the roof-top heaters. Because we did not have heat this past weekend, the tapers were not able to do their work. This will likely alter our plans to paint this weekend. The Ondrick Construction Company will be paving the sidewalks behind the elementary building this week, weather permitting.

The status of the building project changes almost daily. The sheetrock is about 98% complete. The workers plan to finish the sheetrocking and the last round of taping this week. The plumbing is nearing completion with all ductwork being installed. The piping for the hot water has also been completed. The electric rough wiring is now finished and the electric mains have been run. We are waiting for the electric company to install the transformer allowing us to turn on the new service. The gas piping has also been installed, and the new high-pressure gas line should be hooked up by the end of this week. We hope to fire the roof-top heaters by week’s end warming the temperature so that an additional two coats of putty can be put on the walls next week. The fire alarm system in the existing building should be completed by next week.
There is a great need for volunteers for the projects coming up over the next two months. These projects include painting and the installation of data wiring, heating controls, cabinetry, doors, and the corresponding hardware. Volunteers could potentially save the school more than $90,000.

The windows, wiring, and other electrical work are being done this week. New furniture has been ordered, and cabinetry is ready to be shipped. The plumbing, heating, air conditioning, and ventilation work are going on now. The project is on schedule and even ahead of schedule in some areas. The hope is to complete the exterior so heat can be turned on and interior work completed in a warm building.
Construction is progressing. Foundation work for the new facility has been completed with the back-filling of the foundation walls. Various underground utility and piping services are being installed now. Portions of existing classrooms having direct contact with the new building are being modified structurally to accommodate the new facility. Environmental remediation services will begin on July 1 along with modifications of the office ceilings and HVAC system. Preliminary work has also begun on major improvements to the school nurse’s office and examination area.
Things got started with a bang on Friday, March 16. The entire building vibrated with the onset of construction. We literally ♪ felt the earth move under our feet ♪! The first order of business is to remove the tree stumps and then move the topsoil to the new playground. Next, the area will be leveled, the courtyard cleared, and a leeching drain installed. The concrete will be poured next week. We are excited to see things progressing on schedule, and we praise God for what He is doing here at PVCS!
